INK-terview: 10 Quick Questions with Our Jay

Jay---2So, by now you’ve met our brand new Australia-based Head of Digital Jay Salter, but no one really knows a person until they’ve really been put under the INK-terview spotlight, eh?

Prepare to really get to know our Jay, then, as we subject him to our usual INK-style grilling. But don’t worry, he handles it pretty well. And guess what? He likes Yorkshire puddings – so he’s a good ‘un in our eyes at least! Read on to learn more…

INK-terviewer: INK wouldn’t be INK without…
Jay: Their team, culture and leadership.

If you weren’t INK’s Head of Digital, what profession might you have fancied having a go at instead?
Jay: I always wanted to be a character at Disneyland, walking around the park entertaining people and kids.

Imagine you’re auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent. (or rather, Australia’s Got Talent)..what talent would you wow the judges with? Any party tricks up your sleeve?
Jay: I can do a number of tricks with a tennis racket and a ball.

How would your best friend describe you in three words? Be honest…
Jay: “Always so lucky”

If you could jet off to a desert island with three people (celebs or otherwise, dead or alive) who would make the cut and why?
Jay: Wife, daughter and Bear Grylls.
Wife and daughter because I couldn’t live without them and Bear Grylls so we could live.

For you, what’s been the most important digital development in recent years – and how has it helped you do your job?
Jay: The amount of open source data and using it in reporting on current trends and industry benchmarks.

Three-course dinner party round at yours! But what’s on the menu?
Jay: Starter – beef nachos and sour cream
Main – Steak mushroom sauce, scalloped potatoes, peas, beans and Yorkshire pudding
Desserts – any ice cream.

If you could offer just one piece of advice to a budding Head of Digital, what would it be?
Jay: Learn from everyone you meet and create any strategy for any business as if it were your own.

Finally, aside from your obvious talent for a racket and ball, tell us something else we don’t know about you…
Jay: I played Aussie Rules football and traveled from the age of 13 around the world playing professional tennis.
